The Track in Full (Almost)

I had some lay over time in Kuala Lumpur airport, so I decided it would be a good time to put up a map of the trail. I have not walked this trail myself yet, so I CANNOT vouch for the accuracy of it. I managed to find someone who claims to have walked the trail and this is their GPS data converted into a google map. I have compared it to various other maps and as far as I can see it seems accurate. I will be able to tell for sure once I am on the trail and am walking it.

(For some reason the first section did not want to upload so I just drew a rough line of the route)

According to the data the track will be about 1050km long, taking me through 11 prefectures. This contradicts the Wikipedia article about the trail that says it is 1697km, although this map does not contain several optional deviations that appear on other maps, which may explain the difference in numbers.

  1. Hmmm... first comment seems to have been lost. Anyway... this looks amazing Tom. Hope it all goes really well. Im home and settling back in. Seeing Pari for lunch tomorrow too. Starting to process the last two weeks. Thanks again for everything!! Most particularly my birthday, which was awesome. All the best for the journey to the trail head and for the hike ahead.

  2. awesome, Tom! I want to do this hike! I have hiked a little in western Tokyo and really enjoyed the mountains there. Maybe there is a return route over Gunma that might be fun?
